Tuesday's activities


Period 1

Social Studies

Objective: Students will gain knowledge of mountain terrains and view the height of K-2.
Materials needed: LCD projector, teacher laptop, Google Earth software.
Task: Students will watch as the teacher and Google earth take them to K-2.

Discussion questions:
What are come of your thoughts of what you saw on Google Earth?
Given what we have already learned about mountainous terrain and deserts this year, what can we assume about the way people live in village below K-2?
What effect will the geography have on the people of Korphe? How will is affect their culture.

Student activity:
Locate Korphe on Google Maps
Students will research tall structures here in the United States and compare the height of K-2.



Period 2

Language Arts

Objective:
Materials needed: 25 copies of Three Cups of Tea: Young Readers Edition.
Tasks:
Students will watch the video about schools being built in Pakistan:


Students will begin to explore the young readers edition of Three Cups of Tea, and read the back of the book.
Students will make predictions (more educated guesses after videos and discussions) about what they think the book will be about.

Each student will log in to the teacher's blog and answer the first post:
"What are your predictions about the book?"


Period 3

Home Economics

Objective: Students will make sure their product is marketable to middle school students.
Materials: ingredients for food, all kitchen utensils and hardware.
Task: students will prepare their products for lass to taste test and give feedback on each others product.


Period 4

Math

Objective: students will continue to work with plotting data.
Materials needed: laptops with spreadsheet, internet.
Task: Students will begin by plotting the literacy rate of Pakistan (43%). Students will then do research on the literacy rates of five other countries: USA, India, China, England, and Mexico.
Students will plot data of literacy rates from other countries.


Period 5

Art

Objective: Students will compare and evaluate various types of collages.
Materials needed: books, posters, collage pictures, laptops, internet.
Task: Students will research famous collages and/or collage artists. Through their research students will observe similarities and differences in the different pieces.

Discussions questions
Do the collages themselves tell a story?
Can you think of a story that you could re-tell just with collage pieces, no words?

Follow-up/Homework
Students will find materials from home to bring in to make collages in class this week.
